Growing Pains or Dysthymia?

WASHINGTON, December 10, 2011 - Dysthymia is a type of depression that can begin during childhood or puberty. Its symptoms are milder than major depression, but dysthymia hangs on much longer. This mood disorder can continue for two or more years in adults, and one or more in children. Because the symptoms are not intense, this kind of depression too often goes undiagnosed with early onset. The child or teen acclimates to the symptoms as do their family and peers.
