Empathy for our genes: No longer our body’s CEO

WASHINGTON, March 3, 2012—All of us are intimately connected to our environment. Day to day it appears as if we are beings walking through a movie set that is separate from ourselves. That separation is an illusion, and you do not have to be Buddhist to realize this.

Some researchers have been busy the past decade or two, showing just how interrelated we are to what is around us. Those studies reveal that our genetic code, once thought to be written in organic stone, reacts every moment of our lives to the environment. In essence, our genes can be switched to active or dormant settings. They are a blueprint that can be edited.

Dr. Bruce Lipton has done extensive research in cell biology. He has said, “Genes are indeed blueprints. But, a gene cannot cause or control its own expression. It is not self-regulatory. If genes don’t control life, then what is in charge of life? I say it’s the cell membrane.”
